Bhaktapur, Nov 25 : The Shankhadhar Community Building and the National Luminary Shankhadhar Sakhwa Foundation Building have been inaugurated here. Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Bidya Sundar Shakya inaugurated the two facilities constructed at the Shankhadhar Chowk of Madhyapur Thimi Municipality on Tuesday. On the occasion, Mayor Shakya urged one and all to be free of the misconception that the Nepal Sambat calendar belonged only to the Newar community. National luminary Shankhadhar Sakhwa is credited with establishing the Nepal Sambat calendar, the country’s unique calendar, by liberating the people of their debts.
The KMC mayor said that the metropolis was constructing the statues of the four martyrs and the national luminary Shakhwa.
Mayor of Madhyapur Thimi Municipality, Madan Sundar Shrestha said the national hero Sakhwa is in the minds and hearts of the people of the Kathmandu Valley as he paid all debts of the people of Kantipur and Bhadgaun 1141 years back.
The community building cum museum were constructed at a cost of Rs 150 million including Rs 9 million provided by Madhyapur Thimi municipality, Rs 5 million provided by lawmaker Mahesh Basnet from the MP’s Fund and voluntary labour of the Shankhadhar Sakhwa Foundation equivalent to Rs 1 million.(RSS)
